Chal-Nakhjir or simply Nakhcheer Cave, an impressive natural wonder in Delijan, Markazi Province, is a must-see site for earth’s evolution aficionados as well as ordinary sightseers. Nestled in the heart of the mountain, in the vicinity of Naragh countryside, the cave was interestingly explored following  an explosion for a construction plan in 1989 and turned into a valuable tourist attraction ever since.

Home to a unique collection of coral reefs, estimated to be roughly 70 million years old, the cave dates from the third geologic period. It holds a 5-km- dirt trail with elegant limestone ceilings. Among the most eye-catching caves in the globe, it is believed that the cavity was formed as a result of an intrusive fault and developed over millions of years. The multi-strata cave is 1200 meters long and 40 to 50 meters high.

Among the highlights of the cave are numerous halls such as Chelcheargh, Sofre Aroos, Daryache, Bagh-e Vahsh and Chehel Sotoon. It also features amazing crystalized stalactites and stalagmites; here in the cave you can spot interesting crystal images like eagles, turtles, deer, and doves.

Of note is the natural inner ventilation which makes it comfortable in hot summers and cold winters. With plenty of oxygen inside the cave, visitors will never challenge to breathe in. However, sightseers suffering from heart and respiratory disease are recommended to avoid visiting.

A nationally enlisted heritage site, the cave is open to visitors from 9 am to 5 pm every day. The entry fee is IR 100,000 (at the moment of reporting).

Note: cameras and bags are not allowed into the cave.
